About Us
A vital profession
You may have some sense of what paramedics do, but did you
know there's a regulatory College that constantly works to ensure
the care you receive is the best it can possibly be?
That's the role of the Alberta College of
Paramedics.
The first few moments of medical care are vital, which is
why the College provides a comprehensive Continuing Competence
Program and annual assessment of all its registered paramedic
practitioners. The College's promise to you is to ensure that
all registered practitioners' posses the necessary skills,
training and ethical reasoning to safely serve the people of their
communities to the highest possible standard.
All paramedic practitioners must be registered with the College to
practice in Alberta.
The College, as designated under the Alberta Health
Disciplines Act, serves the public interest by governing and
regulating all three levels of practice:
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Emergency Medical Technologist - Paramedic
(EMT-P)
The College's ability to govern empowers paramedicine
professionals to maintain the integrity of their profession by
delivering the highest level of service to the public. The College
provides many opportunities for practitioners to directly guide the
future of their profession through Council and committee policy
development.
The College is not responsible for delivering paramedicine
education programs in Alberta and is not directly affiliated with
any of the education providers. The College does, however, set the
standards for program approval in Alberta. To begin exploring your
potential in this dynamic and essential field, visit the Approved Educational
Programs section for details on education programs
located across Alberta.
