Council

The role of the College Council

Council for the Alberta College of Paramedics, under the Health Disciplines Act, is responsible for overseeing the practice of paramedicine in Alberta and acting in accordance with the best interests of the public. Council is accountable for the overall governance of the College by:

  • setting the long-term strategic direction for the College
  • ensuring the College meets all legislated and regulatory requirements
  • ensuring that College business is efficiently carried out under the direction of the CEO/Registrar
  • approving all regulatory fees and College expenses

Council is also responsible for performance evaluations, managing stakeholder relations, mitigating risk and making decisions with respect to appeals.

Council elections

The College Council consists primarily of elected registered practitioners as well as public-sector appointees. Council must be comprised of at least two members from each of the three practitioner designations (EMR, EMT and EMT-P) and a 25 per cent portion of public appointees as selected by Alberta Health and Wellness.

Council elections are held in conjunction with the College's Annual General Meeting with each member elected to serve a three-year term. Council members then vote to elect a President, Vice-President and Treasurer.

Attend a meeting

Registered practitioners and interested members of the public are welcome to attend College Council meetings, but space is limited so please let us know if you are planning to attend by calling 780-410-4131.
