Provincial Registration Examination
The College administers Provincial Registration
Examinations at the EMR, EMT and EMT-P levels to ensure that all
individuals are professionally competent and have met the entry
requirements to practice when they apply to register with the
College.
Candidates are evaluated based on their application of
knowledge, skills, and judgment. Testing includes both written
(multiple choice) and practical components.
Important: you must successfully complete
the Provincial Registration Examination before you
are eligible to apply to be a registered practitioner with
the College.
Are you eligible?
To sit the Provincial
Registration Exam, you must:
- successfully complete an approved educational
program OR receive approval from the Registration Committee
through the equivalency process.
- take the exam within one year of graduating from your
education program or recieving approval from the Registration
Committee.
Important: Based
on the Provincial Registration Examination Attempts
Policy, you only have three attempts to pass the Provincial
Registration Exam (both components) within one year of your
graduation date. Both the exam and your application for
registration must be successfully completed within one
year of graduating from an approved education program. If
you do not meet these requirements, you will be required to retake
your educational program or a refresher program.
Want to take the exam?
If you're eligible and wish to
take the exam, you must complete the following steps:
- Determine your preferred date to take the exam.
- Complete the application form for the designation you
wish to write.
- Submit the application form, including all applicable
documentation and fees to the College.
- Note that all written exams
(unless specified otherwise in a formal letter) are held at the
Coast Edmonton East Hotel (2100 Premier Way, Sherwood
Park, Alberta). All practical exams are held at The King's
University College (9125 - 50 Street, Edmonton,
Alberta).
You passed! What's next?
Once you have successfully completed the EMR exam, you
must apply for a new registration within one year
of your graduation date (from your approved education program) in
order to obtain registration with the College and practice in
Alberta.
Some things to remember:
- If you require Special Accommodation to write your
examination, there will be a $250.00 fee applied to your
application.
- All candidates who sit the Provincial Registration
Examination are eligible to appeal their results only up to 30 days
after receiving their exam scores in the mail. The cost for an
appeal is $150.00 for the written portion and $450.00 for the
