Upon transition, the College places all practitioners in the appropriate register relative to their individual scope of practice and skillset. The Paramedics Profession Regulation (PPR) identifies new designation titles within the paramedicine profession. By adopting these titles, Alberta will align with what is used in other Canadian jurisdictions, improve practitioner mobility between Alberta and other provinces. The PPR identifies the following titles:
• Emergency Medical Responder
• Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) – will replace Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
• Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) – will replace Emergency Medical Technologist (EMT-P)
The regulation identifies a Specialist title for members registered as an ACP or PCP, an example of which is a Critical Care Paramedic (CCP), which is a reserved title that can be authorized by the Registrar for identified additional competencies and must be approved by Council.
There are not unique registers for specialist titles, as they are included within the appropriate register dependent on title.
