If you are a registered member and a PCP or ACP graduate from an approved educational program you are eligible to apply for a Register Change Request.

There are two Register Change Requests you can make:

  1. Provisional registration at the new designation level. This option is suitable for practitioners who have an employment opportunity to practise under supervision at the provisional designation level prior to completing the Provincial Registration Examination.
  2. General registration at the new designation level. This option is for practitioners who have passed the Provincial Registration Examination and are applying for registration at the new level.

PROVISIONAL registration through REGISTER Change REQUEST

You are eligible to apply for Provisional Registration through Register Change Request if you meet all the following criteria:

  1. You are currently registered as an EMR or PCP with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  2. You are a graduate of an Alberta College of Paramedics approved PCP or ACP educational program.
  3. Your graduation date is within one year prior to the date of your complete application.

GENERAL registration through REGISTER change REQUEST

You are eligible to apply for full PCP or ACP registration though Register Change Request if you meet all the following criteria:

  1. You are currently registered as an EMR or PCP with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  2. You are a graduate of an Alberta College of Paramedics approved PCP or ACP educational program.
  3. You have passed all portions of the Alberta Provincial Registration Examination within one year of your graduation date.
  4. You submit your complete application within one year of your graduation date and pay all required fees.

To apply for a Register Change Request, you must submit a complete application including supporting documentation. During the College’s transition to the Health Professions Act please access and submit the Register Change Request to registration@collegeofparamedics.org.

As a registered practitioner of the profession, you need to meet annual continuing competence and registration renewal requirements. You also need to abide by all legislative and College requirements, policies and standards.

NOTE: While applications can be scanned or faxed to the College, original transcripts must be mailed or brought into the College office. See application for details regarding transcript submission.

Conditions associated with PROVISIONAL registration

As stipulated in provincial legislation and in the College’s Supervised Practice Policy, practitioners who are registered as provisional may only provide health services at their provisional discipline level if they are under the supervision of a registered practitioner who meets all the following criteria:

  1. The supervising member currently holds general registration (not provisional registration) with the College at the same or a higher discipline level as the provisional practitioner.
  2. The supervising member is approved by his or her employer to provide direct supervision.
  3. A college order does not prevent the practitioner from supervising another member.
  4. The supervising member can only provide direct supervision of activities that he or she is able to independently practise.
  5. The supervising member must directly supervise the practice and be able to immediately and physically intervene with no delay in patient care.
