THe CYCLE FOR RENEWING 2017 PRACTICE PERMITS IS FROM nOVEMBER 1 TO DECEMBER 31, 2016.

The College was proclaimed under the Health Professions Act (HPA) enabling our own regulation, the Paramedics Profession Regulation (PPR). It is an exciting time to be a part of this profession as we strive to provide the best possible health care for Albertans.

On the day paramedicine was proclaimed under HPA, the former register process became obsolete and our practitioners transitioned to the General Register. This means that practitioners will receive a practice permit, instead of a registration card, when they renew this cycle.

PRACTICE PERMITS

Practice permits are what allow a practitioner to practice the profession. Information included on the practice permit include: College registration, practitioner designation and any conditions pertaining to practice of the profession.

These conditions outline what restricted activities practitioners are authorized to perform and may define permitted practice settings. For this renewal cycle, every practitioner will have conditions applied to their practice as gaps of current practice are recognized, education delivery is determined and what is allowable under the PPR is established.

iN ORDER TO RENEW YOUR PRACTICE PERMIT FOR 2017, YOU NEED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Complete the renewal application by logging into the navigation portal.
  2. Ensure you have attained your required credits. Confirm this by checking your portal for your Continuing Competence credit requirements for the 2015/16 cycle.
  3. Ensure you have completed the required Airway Management Module.
  4. Have appropriate Professional Liability Insurance.
  5. Pay the renewal fee. ($525)

WILL MY PRACTICE PERMIT BE MAILED TO ME?

Practice permits will be available after January 1, 2017 through your navigation portal. You are welcome to print or view this permit at your own convenience.

WHAT IF I DO NOT RENEW BY DECEMBER 31, 2016?

If you do not renew by December 31, 2016, your practice permit will be suspended on January 1, 2017. Your name will not appear on the online register and you will not be permitted to practice the profession.

If your practice permit is suspended, you will need to go through the process of reinstating the practice permit before it goes to cancelation. There is a late fee of $175. after January 1, 2017.

If your practice permit is suspended due to non-renewal, you will receive notification that your practice permit will be cancelled on February 15, 2017.

DECLARING NON RENEWAL

If you choose not to renew your College registration, please:

  1. Login to your navigation portal profile.
  2. Click “Applications” and find the Declaration of Non-Renewal form.
  3. Complete and submit the form.
