The required competency for the upcoming Continuing Competence cycle (January 1 – September 30) is now completed. Members are now able to register for a start date as early as January 1, 2019.
CC requirement for 2019
While originally thought this course would only meet the required competency for 2019, the Council has agreed that the completion of this course will fulfill your full CC requirement for the shorten 2019 CC cycle. You only need to complete this course by the renewal deadline of September 30, 2019 to renew for 2019/2020.
About the Course
Subject matter experts worked with MacEwan University to build the course, which consists of five modules. Each module addresses an area of professional practice. As the profession transitioned to the Health Professions Act, it was clear to the Competence Committee that members required additional training in what the legislation means when it talks about healthcare professionalism.
Why MacEwan University
The online course, Professional Responsibilities for Paramedicine, is based on the format MacEwan University already had developed in collaboration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). The course for paramedics mirrors the professionalism course CARNA’s members take.
MacEwan is also well set up to offer the course through their robust online delivery platform; which has been pilot tested by paramedics to ensure the ease of use and format.

We encourage you to register early and complete the course to make sure your renewal in August/September is a smooth process.
However, you must register by August 31 to gain entry to the course and to complete it before the September 30 annual renewal deadline. If you register on September 1, you will not gain entry to the course until October 1, and that will be too late to meet the requirement for renewal.
You will have four months to complete all of the modules in the course. Each module will take up to three hours, depending on how quickly you work through the material. The entire course will take an estimated 15 hours.
Please make sure you have enough time to complete the entire course before the end of this year’s CC cycle (September 30, 2019).
The College has secured a reduced cost for all College members to help you achieve the required competency for 2019. The cost to members who register between now and August 31, 2019 is only $60. On September 1, 2019 the cost will return to the full $125 amount.
