Conduct detrimental to the best interest of the public and that contravenes the Act or Regulations. It often involves a violation of ethical behaviour or professional responsibility, or both.
Professional Misconduct/Unskilled Practice
Section 41 of the HDA identifies, “any conduct of a registered member that, in the opinion of the committee, a) is detrimental to the best interests of the public, b) contravenes the HDA, or the EMT regulation, or c) displays a lack of knowledge, skill or judgement in the practice of the designated health discipline. It also identifies whether or not that conduct is disgraceful or dishonorable, which may constitute either unskilled practice of the designated health discipline or professional misconduct.”
A registered member is a person who is registered with the College under the HDA as described within the EMT Regulation as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR); Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); or an Emergency Medical Technologist – Paramedic (EMT-P) with the College.
