A provision under the HPA requires each registered practitioner carry their own professional liability insurance and is a practice aligned with all other health professions in Alberta. All registrants will be required to maintain professional liability insurance with amounts and coverage as follows:

  • Errors and Omissions Liability – $5,000,000 per claim and annual aggregate,
  • Abuse Errors & Omissions Liability (including Criminal Defense) – $50,000 per claim $100,000 annual aggregate
  • Disciplinary Legal Expenses – $50,000 per claim $100,000 annual aggregate
  • Breach of Confidentiality – $5,000,000 per claim $5,000,000 annual aggregate

Furthermore, all registrants must confirm they have such insurance at the time of their practice permit renewal and maintain the insurance in order to current in their registration.
